Mind.
Our minds are like ice-bergs, 5% of them living above the surface while the remaining 95% lives below. That 5% represents the conscious mind, this is the creative part of our mind that controls our waking state. We use our conscious to process information, problem solve, make decisions, communicate, focus, and reflect.
The remaining 95% represents the sub-conscious mind, this part of our mind controls perceptions, behavior, thoughts, and reactions that seem inherent or habitual. The subconscious mind is like the computer’s operating system, while the conscious mind is the website or application one is actively using.
Our subconscious runs on auto-pilot and goes largely unnoticed for a large portion of our lives. This deeply rooted part of our mind is programmed between the ages of 0-7 while we are in the brain wave state of theta (4-8 Hz). This is a very relaxed, almost hypnotic state where our minds are extremely suggestible, functioning like sponges. The subconscious mind (sometimes referred to as the “unconscious”) is much much stronger than the conscious mind. Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung, pioneers in this field, found that the subconscious mind was so strong that it has the ability to create physical pain within the body, the opposite also being true.
When taking the steps to create the life of your dreams this has to be considered. You could come up with the best plan in the world, but if parts of you still hold subconscious limiting beliefs about yourself it will prevent that plan from coming to fruition. Carl Jung said it best, “Until you make the unconscious, conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate.”.
Rewiring subconscious limiting beliefs involves getting your brain back into theta, the same state you were in between 0-7 when said beliefs were programmed in the first place. Some simple ways to do this are by practicing EFT or getting into a relaxed state and repeating positive affirmations. Repeating these processes over and over is just like listening to your favorite song on repeat, eventually you will know it by heart. You are not a victim to your genetic code or environment you grew up in, and there is actually science that backs this up.
Dr. Bruce Lipton found that genes do not determine our lives, but our (subconscious) beliefs and how we experience our environment do! In his book, “The Biology of Belief”, Lipton explains that less than 1% of disease and illness is connected to genes, while 99% of disease and illness has to do with lifestyle and environment. How you treat your body and what you subconsciously believe about yourself, the world, and how you respond to it directly influences your body’s genetic activity. Genes are just like a blueprint, they have no actual control. For example, if your genes are the TV, your consciousness and environment is the remote that allows you to change the channel. Meaning, if you want to change your life, you first change your subconscious beliefs, which in turn changes how you experience the world, which then literally changes you into a different version of yourself.
